How to eat healthy on a budget?

You don’t have to break the bank to eat healthy. There are many ways to eat healthy even on a tight budget.

Plan ahead

-planning ahead can avoid tempting impulse purchases that can cause you to overbuy and over spent
– plan your meals for the week and then make a grocery list of what you need.
-Make sure in your fridge and cupboards that you don’t already have some of the products

STICK to your GROCERY LIST

  1. Compare brand names and house brand prices
    – Retailers house brands often have similiar quality and nutrition credentials to branded product
    – house brands sometimes less expensive
  2. Do not go shopping on an empty stomach
    -You tend to buy more food when you are hungry, so make sure you are not shopping on an emty stomach
    -Eat a nutritious meal / snack before going grocery shopping

Buy frozen vegetables

-just as nutritious as fresh produce
-cheaper
-available all year around and not just in season
-minimising wastage by only using the amountbyou need and storing the rest in the freezer for the next meal

Save with buying bulk and sharing it with friends or family

-decidevwith your family/friends which bulk products to buy
-split the money and buy products that you all need at a lower cost

Buy products that are in season

-make sure you know what foods are in season
-foods out of season tend to be more expensive

Cook at home and pack your lunch

-buying take aways can get very expensive
-cooking at home and packing your own lunch will save you money and you will have better control over the types of foods you are eating
-left overs are a great lunch option

Buy cheaper cuts of meat

-Less expensive cuts of meat are great to use in casseroles, soups, stews and burritos. These types of recipes usually make big meals and lots of leftovers.
